Kashmir, August 6,2026-In a major push for Jammu and Kashmir infrastructure, the Union Cabinet has approved the Singhpora–Vailoo Tunnel on the Kishtwar–Anantnag Highway, marking a significant step toward strengthening all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Jammu.
The strategic tunnel project is expected to improve year-round road access, particularly during the harsh winter months when snowfall often disrupts travel. Once completed, the tunnel will provide safer, faster, and more reliable transportation for residents, tourists, and commercial vehicles.
The Singhpora–Vailoo Tunnel will also enhance connectivity between the Chenab Valley and Anantnag, supporting regional trade, tourism, and economic development. Improved road infrastructure is expected to reduce travel time, facilitate the movement of goods and essential services, and create new opportunities for businesses across the region.
The project forms part of the Government of India’s continued focus on modernizing transport infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, improving road networks, and ensuring seamless connectivity in remote and mountainous areas.
With the approval of the Singhpora–Vailoo Tunnel, the region moves closer to achieving reliable all-weather connectivity, strengthening economic integration and supporting long-term development across Kishtwar, Anantnag, and the wider Chenab Valley.
