Jammu Municipal Corporation launches mega plantation drive, plants 2,000 saplings under ‘Green Jammu, Clean Jammu’ initiative

Jammu, July 14,2026- In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability and improving urban air quality, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), in collaboration with the Urban Forest Division, launched a mega plantation drive under the ‘Green Jammu, Clean Jammu’ initiative.

As part of the campaign, more than 2,000 saplings were planted along the Sunjwan–Chowadi Road under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The initiative aims to enhance the city’s green cover, combat air pollution, and create a cleaner and healthier urban environment.

The plantation drive witnessed the participation of officials from the Jammu Municipal Corporation, the Urban Forest Division, environmental experts, volunteers, and local residents, highlighting the importance of community participation in environmental conservation.

Speaking on the occasion, officials emphasized that increasing green cover is one of the most effective ways to improve air quality, reduce pollution levels, and mitigate the effects of climate change. They said the drive reflects the administration’s commitment to sustainable urban development and environmental protection.

The newly planted saplings are expected to contribute significantly to carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and the creation of green corridors along major roads. Authorities also appealed to citizens to actively participate in plantation drives and take responsibility for nurturing the saplings to ensure their long-term survival.

The ‘Green Jammu, Clean Jammu’ initiative forms part of broader efforts under the National Clean Air Programme, which focuses on reducing air pollution through afforestation, improved waste management, and enhanced public awareness. The administration plans to continue similar plantation drives across the city to strengthen Jammu’s urban ecosystem and promote a cleaner, greener future.
