Srinagar, June 24,2026- The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by senior parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor, called on Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar during its four-day study visit to the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed the outcomes of its engagements across the region, including visits to border areas in Jammu, inspections at the Regional Passport Office, and interactions with senior Army officials in Srinagar. The visit aimed to assess various aspects of governance, security, infrastructure, and public service delivery in the Union Territories.
The Lieutenant Governor briefed the committee on the significant socio-economic transformation witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir over the past six years. Highlighting the region’s developmental journey since August 2019, he noted substantial improvements in security, infrastructure, governance, and public welfare initiatives.
LG Manoj Sinha emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir has experienced rapid progress across multiple sectors, leading to enhanced economic growth, increased investment opportunities, and improved quality of life for residents. He said the Union Territory is witnessing rising aspirations among its people, supported by better connectivity, modern infrastructure, and expanding avenues for employment and entrepreneurship.
The committee was also apprised of the improving security environment, which has facilitated faster development and greater public participation in governance and economic activities. The Lieutenant Governor underscored the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, transparency, and sustainable development.
The visit of the Parliamentary Standing Committee is expected to provide valuable insights into the developmental initiatives and governance mechanisms being implemented in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, while strengthening coordination between policymakers and local administrations.
