Anantnag, May 24,2026- Devotees gathered at the historic Martand Sun Temple in Mattan area of Anantnag district to offer prayers during the ongoing traditional sacred fair known as the Baan Mass Mela (Banmas).
The mela is being observed during Purushottam Maas, also known as Adhik Maas, which is considered highly auspicious in the Hindu lunar calendar and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. In 2026, the sacred month is being observed from May 17 to June 15.
Large numbers of devotees visited the temple premises to participate in religious rituals and prayers, reflecting the spiritual and cultural significance of the annual gathering in Kashmir.
The Baan Mass Mela holds deep religious importance for the local Hindu community and attracts pilgrims from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Devotees believe that prayers and charitable acts performed during Purushottam Maas bring spiritual merit and blessings.
The historic Martand Sun Temple, known for its ancient architecture and cultural heritage, remains one of Kashmir’s most revered religious and archaeological sites.
Authorities have made necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the mela, including security, sanitation, and other facilities for visiting devotees.
