Srinagar, May 16,2026- In a major step towards strengthening sanitation infrastructure and improving wastewater management in Jammu and Kashmir, the government has approved Used Water Management Projects worth ₹37.96 crore for Baramulla and ₹34.43 crore for Rajouri.
The projects are aimed at addressing growing wastewater challenges through scientific sewage treatment and sustainable sanitation systems, while also enhancing public health and hygiene standards in the two districts.
Officials said the approved projects will focus on developing modern infrastructure for the collection, treatment and safe disposal of used water, helping reduce environmental pollution and improve living conditions for residents.
The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen urban sanitation management by ensuring proper handling of sewage and wastewater generated in residential and commercial areas. Authorities stated that scientific treatment of wastewater is essential for protecting water bodies, maintaining cleanliness and preventing health risks associated with untreated sewage.
The projects form part of broader efforts to modernise sanitation infrastructure and promote sustainable urban development across Jammu and Kashmir. Improved wastewater treatment systems are also expected to contribute to environmental conservation and better civic amenities in Baramulla and Rajouri districts.
Officials added that the implementation of these projects will help create cleaner surroundings, improve hygiene standards and support long-term public health objectives in the region.
The approval has been welcomed as an important step towards strengthening essential civic infrastructure and ensuring efficient wastewater management in rapidly growing urban areas.
