LG Manoj Sinha says border villages driving new era of development in J&K during Samba visit

Kashmir,May 7,2026-Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that border villages are now at the centre of development and governance priorities in the Union Territory, asserting that the government is committed to transforming remote areas into hubs of growth, connectivity, and opportunity.

During his visit to Samba district, the Lieutenant Governor directed officials to ensure that every household in border areas receives basic facilities including road connectivity, electricity, drinking water, and access to welfare schemes without delay.

Addressing public gatherings and reviewing developmental initiatives, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that villages located along the International Border and other remote regions had remained neglected for decades but are now witnessing focused development under various government programmes.

He instructed district officials to work with a mission-mode approach to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left out of government schemes. Stressing inclusive development, he said that strengthening infrastructure and public services in border villages is essential for improving the quality of life of residents living in far-flung areas.

During the visit, the Lieutenant Governor also handed over appointment orders to selected beneficiaries and distributed benefits under different welfare schemes aimed at supporting youth, women, farmers, and economically weaker sections.

Officials said the outreach programme was organized to take governance directly to the people and address public grievances at the grassroots level. The Lieutenant Governor interacted with local residents, reviewed ongoing developmental works, and took stock of the implementation of welfare initiatives in the district.

Highlighting the importance of connectivity, the Lieutenant Governor directed concerned departments to expedite infrastructure projects in border areas and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and better road access to remote habitations.

He also reiterated the administration’s commitment to empowering rural communities through employment generation, improved healthcare facilities, educational opportunities, and self-employment schemes.

Residents and beneficiaries present during the event welcomed the government’s focus on border villages and expressed hope that the ongoing initiatives would further improve living standards and create new opportunities for youth in the region.

The administration has been laying special emphasis on strengthening infrastructure and public outreach in border districts as part of broader efforts to accelerate development across Jammu and Kashmir.
