Kashmir Ahead

LG Manoj Sinha launches mega anti-drug, narco-terror campaign in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 3, 2026- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday launched a major campaign against drug abuse and narco-terrorism at the TRC Football Ground in Srinagar, calling it a निर्णायक moment in Jammu & Kashmir’s fight to eliminate the drug menace and its links to terrorism.

Thousands of citizens participated in a two-kilometre padyatra led by the Lieutenant Governor, sending a strong message of unity and determination to build a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir. The mass participation reflected what the LG described as a “people’s movement” committed to safeguarding the future of the region’s youth.

Addressing the gathering, Manoj Sinha подчеркнул that the fight against drugs is not just an administrative initiative but a collective societal resolve. “It is the cry of every mother, the commitment of every father, and the promise of every teacher who has seen young lives fade due to addiction. After decades of suffering, people have risen to say—enough is enough,” he said.

Highlighting the deep nexus between drug trafficking and terrorism, the Lieutenant Governor warned that narco-terror networks are deliberately targeting the youth to destabilize society. “Drug money fuels terrorism and radicalization. Both seek to destroy peace and weaken our future. We have taken a solemn oath that we will never allow them to succeed,” he asserted.

He emphasized that active public participation is the strongest force in defeating this threat and called upon parents, teachers, elders, and spiritual leaders to guide the youth. “Drugs are not ‘cool’; they are chains that steal freedom. Our youth must channel their energy into sports, skills, and nation-building,” he added.

The campaign operates on a three-pronged strategy—disrupting supply chains, raising grassroots awareness, and ensuring rehabilitation of addicts with dignity and care. The administration, he said, has adopted a 360-degree approach involving enforcement, education, and community engagement.

Sharing recent enforcement data, Manoj Sinha revealed that under a new Standard Operating Procedure (SoP), stringent action has been taken across the Union Territory. Between April 11 and May 2, a total of 481 FIRs were registered in just 21 days. During this period, 518 drug smugglers and peddlers were arrested and sent to jail, while 24 properties built from drug proceeds were demolished and assets worth crores seized.

In addition, authorities have recommended the cancellation of over 300 driving licences and 325 vehicle registrations. Nearly 3,000 drug stores were inspected, resulting in 107 license suspensions and one FIR. Kashmir region alone accounted for 26 property attachments, highlighting intensified enforcement efforts.

“These figures demonstrate our zero-tolerance policy against drugs. Police, civil administration, and the public are working together to dismantle the entire ecosystem of drug trafficking,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Issuing a stern warning to drug syndicates and anti-national elements, he said that their operations in Jammu & Kashmir would be completely dismantled. “We are tracking financial trails of drug cartels. Every link will be broken, every network destroyed. Every trafficker will face justice under the full force of law,” he stated.

Reaffirming his vision, the Lieutenant Governor called on citizens to pledge for a future where no child falls prey to drugs, no family suffers from addiction, and every community thrives in health and strength.

“This is the legacy we owe to future generations. We will not rest until Jammu & Kashmir becomes completely drug-free,” Manoj Sinha said.
