Ramban,May 2,2026- In a remarkable display of devotion and endurance, two Hindu pilgrims have been undertaking a rare and physically demanding ‘dandvat yatra’—a form of pilgrimage where devotees advance by prostrating fully on the ground—towards the sacred Amarnath Cave in Kashmir.
The devotees began their journey from a distant location, covering an extraordinary distance of nearly 1,700 kilometres through continuous prostrations. Their journey recently brought them to Ramban, drawing attention from locals and fellow pilgrims alike.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as deeply spiritual, with the two men maintaining unwavering determination despite harsh weather conditions, fatigue, and the challenges of navigating highways and mountainous terrain. Many locals in Ramban offered them food, water, and encouragement as they paused briefly before continuing their journey.
The dandvat yatra is considered one of the most rigorous forms of religious expression in Hinduism, symbolizing complete surrender and devotion to the divine. Such journeys are rare due to the immense physical and mental strength required.
The Amarnath Yatra, held annually in Jammu and Kashmir, attracts thousands of pilgrims who travel to the हिमलिंग (ice lingam) inside the cave shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. While most pilgrims trek or use ponies and helicopters, the path taken by these two devotees stands out for its intensity and commitment.
Local residents and onlookers expressed admiration for the pilgrims’ faith. Some supporters echoed sentiments celebrating the resilience of Sanatan traditions, calling the journey a symbol of unwavering belief and spiritual strength.
Authorities have also urged pilgrims to prioritize safety, especially during long-distance journeys under extreme conditions.
