Srinagar, April 30,2026- In a major push toward sustainable and inclusive tourism, Srinagar has been selected under the National Responsible Tourism Initiative by the Ministry of Tourism. The initiative aims to significantly improve visitor experiences through the introduction of ‘Paryatan Mitra’ and ‘Paryatan Didi’ programs.
As part of the pilot phase, Srinagar is among seven locations across India chosen to develop a network of trained ‘tourist-friendly’ ambassadors. These ambassadors, including local youth and women, will assist visitors, offer guidance, and promote the region’s rich cultural heritage.
The ‘Paryatan Mitra’ and ‘Paryatan Didi’ initiatives are designed to enhance hospitality standards, ensure tourist safety, and promote responsible tourism practices. The program also seeks to create employment opportunities by actively involving local communities, especially women, in the tourism ecosystem.
Officials stated that the initiative will not only make travel in Srinagar more seamless and welcoming but also strengthen the local economy by encouraging community participation and sustainable tourism development.
The government plans to expand the model to other destinations across the country following the success of the pilot phase, positioning India as a global leader in responsible tourism.
