Jammu , April 29, 2026- Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Tuesday officially kick-started its Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 campaign with a major expansion of its sanitation fleet, launch of new citizen-centric initiatives, and renewed focus on improving cleanliness standards across the city.
The event, held at Town Hall Jammu, was attended by MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi, MLA Bahu Vikram Randhawa, Commissioner JMC Dr. Devansh Yadav, along with senior officers and officials.
Joint Commissioner (H&S) Abdul Star welcomed the gathering, followed by the ceremonial flag-off of 16 new garbage collection vehicles. These include 10 dedicated door-to-door (D2D) e-waste collection vehicles provided by HDFC Bank under its CSR initiative Parivartan Pariyojna, contributing nearly ₹1 crore.
Additionally, six vehicles (three tippers and three auto-tippers) worth approximately ₹89 lakh have been procured directly by JMC to strengthen waste collection infrastructure.
A key highlight of the initiative was the revamp of the Garbage Hotspot Challenge, under which quick reaction teams will address waste-related complaints within 24 hours of being registered on the MyJammu Portal or helpline number.
To further enhance citizen participation, JMC also launched an upgraded Citizen Feedback System under Swachh Survekshan 2025-26. The platform allows residents to directly evaluate municipal services, including:
- Door-to-door waste collection
- Cleanliness and maintenance of public and community toilets
- Timely lifting of garbage from dustbins
The system aims to empower citizens as active stakeholders and “auditors” in improving Jammu’s sanitation standards.
The event also witnessed the release of a Swachhta awareness jingle in Dogri, composed by Padma Shri awardee Balwant Thakur. The culturally rooted composition is expected to amplify awareness at the grassroots level and connect with residents in their native language.
In line with broader social goals, participants also took a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” pledge, reinforcing the link between public health and civic responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, MLAs Yudhvir Sethi and Vikram Randhawa appreciated JMC’s efforts in improving Jammu’s cleanliness ranking to 42nd position in the previous survey and assured continued public and institutional support to further elevate the city’s standing.
Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav emphasized that Swachh Survekshan is not just a municipal exercise but a collective mission, requiring active participation from citizens, stakeholders, and institutions. He outlined the roadmap, challenges, and strategies for achieving a higher national ranking in the 2025-26 survey.
“These initiatives reflect a broader vision of building a sustainable, clean, and healthy city. By integrating technology, corporate partnerships, and community engagement, JMC aims to position Jammu among the top clean cities in India,” he said.
