Kashmir Ahead

J&K’s first rocketry workshop held at Central University of Jammu

Jammu, April 27, 2026- In a landmark step for aerospace education in the region, Central University of Jammu successfully hosted Jammu and Kashmir’s first Advanced Amateur Rocketry Workshop, marking a major boost to hands-on STEM learning and innovation.

The two-day workshop, held on April 25–26, was organised by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in collaboration with the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society Student Branch. The event concluded with the live launch of 30 high-powered rockets from the university campus, showcasing the practical skills acquired by participating students.

The workshop was conducted with support from ISRO-registered space tutor Rocketeers and witnessed participation from around 150 engineering students. Participants were trained in designing, simulating, and building rockets under an open-design framework, offering them real-world exposure to aerospace engineering concepts.

The initiative was held under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Sanjeev Jain and was led by Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jha along with Dr. Misbah Shafi.

Officials said the workshop aimed to nurture innovation, scientific temperament, and technical skills among students, aligning with India’s growing focus on space technology and research.

The successful organisation of such an advanced workshop highlights the increasing academic engagement in cutting-edge domains in Jammu and Kashmir and opens new avenues for aspiring engineers in the aerospace sector.
