Prevention of blindness week observed in Poonch to boost eye health awareness

Poonch, April 1, 2026-The Health Department observed Prevention of Blindness Week from April 1 to April 7 at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital, aiming to raise awareness about eye health and the prevention of visual impairment among the general public.

During the week-long programme, a series of awareness activities, screening camps, and consultations were organized to educate people about common eye diseases, early detection, and timely treatment. Medical professionals emphasized the importance of regular eye check-ups, proper nutrition, and hygiene in maintaining good vision.

Officials highlighted that many causes of blindness are preventable if detected early, and such initiatives play a crucial role in informing communities about available healthcare services and treatment options.

The observance also focused on encouraging individuals, especially in rural areas, to seek timely medical advice and adopt preventive measures to reduce the risk of vision-related complications.

The initiative reflects the government’s continued efforts to strengthen public health awareness and ensure accessible eye care services across Jammu and Kashmir.
