Katra, March 19,2026- The Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has taken a significant step towards environmental sustainability by commissioning a high-capacity biogas plant at the revered Vaishno Devi Temple.
The plant, designed to process large volumes of organic waste generated by pilgrims, converts it into eco-friendly biogas and nutrient-rich compost. This initiative reflects the Shrine Board’s commitment to green energy, waste management, and sustainable pilgrimage practices, while ensuring minimal environmental impact.
Officials highlighted that the project not only meets a substantial portion of the shrine’s energy requirements but also reduces reliance on conventional fuel sources. It is a successful blend of devotion, innovation, and sustainability, demonstrating how religious institutions can adopt eco-friendly technology for operational efficiency.
“The biogas plant exemplifies our dedication to sustainability and responsible management of resources. It is our way of giving back to nature while serving millions of devotees,” said a Shrine Board official.
The initiative is expected to serve as a model for other pilgrimage centers across India, encouraging renewable energy adoption, organic waste recycling, and environmental conservation within religious and community settings.
