Bhaderwah, February 23,2026 -https://youtu.be/vTc_lit8Lh4 In a major boost to India’s expanding Purple Revolution, nearly 6 lakh lavender seedlings have been procured from Bhaderwah and distributed among 650 new farmers across Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir.
Bhaderwah, often referred to as the birthplace of India’s lavender movement, continues to play a pivotal role in promoting aromatic crop cultivation and rural entrepreneurship. The large-scale distribution of quality seedlings aims to enhance lavender farming, generate sustainable income, and reduce dependence on traditional crops.
Boost to Aromatic Farming
The initiative is expected to significantly expand the area under lavender cultivation in hilly regions, where climatic conditions are highly suitable for the crop. Lavender farming has emerged as a profitable alternative for farmers due to its high market demand in essential oils, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries.
Empowering 650 New Farmers
By supporting 650 new farmers, the program strengthens rural livelihoods and promotes diversification in agriculture. The move also aligns with the broader vision of promoting agri-entrepreneurship, value addition, and self-reliance in mountainous regions.
The continued success of the Purple Revolution reflects the growing adoption of scientific farming techniques and the rising confidence of farmers in high-value aromatic crops.
