Srinagar, February 10,2026-In a significant environmental and tourism milestone, Dal and Nigeen Lakes in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, have been rejuvenated by nearly one-third over the past five years, reflecting sustained efforts to restore the ecological balance and enhance urban water management. The initiative, part of ongoing lake conservation and rejuvenation programs, has improved water quality, reduced encroachment, and enhanced the scenic beauty of these iconic Kashmir water bodies.
Authorities highlighted that the rejuvenation project focused on desilting, pollution control, sewage management, and shoreline restoration, ensuring long-term sustainability. The efforts also aim to promote eco-tourism, local livelihoods, and cultural preservation, as Dal and Nigeen Lakes remain major tourist attractions in Srinagar.
Environmental experts and officials emphasized that the project demonstrates a model of urban lake restoration, climate resilience, and community participation, creating a blueprint for other water bodies in Jammu and Kashmir.
