Baramulla, February 10,2026The Disaster Management Authority conducted a comprehensive avalanche preparedness drill at Gulmarg, supervised by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, @mingasherpa. The exercise aimed to strengthen disaster response mechanisms and ensure coordinated action during snow-related emergencies in the region.
The drill saw active participation from the Army, Police, SDRF, Tourism Rescue Team, and other local agencies. Specialized equipment, including sniffer dogs and a helicopter, were deployed to simulate real-time rescue operations, testing rapid response and coordination among all agencies.
Officials highlighted that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to enhance avalanche safety, improve emergency readiness, and protect residents and tourists in high-risk areas like Gulmarg, a key winter tourism destination in Jammu & Kashmir.
