Kashmir,January 21,2026-Jammu and Kashmir witnessed widespread snowfall on January 22 and 23, bringing relief to the region after a long dry spell. Srinagar and other high-altitude areas reported significant accumulation of snow, while hilly districts across Jammu and Kashmir were blanketed in white.
The snowfall led to sub-zero temperatures in several places, with roads in remote areas becoming slippery and challenging for commuters. Authorities advised residents to exercise caution while traveling and ensure proper arrangements for heating and warm clothing.
Weather officials said the snowfall is part of the ongoing Chillai Kalan period, which marks the coldest 40 days of the year in Kashmir. The precipitation has also improved water availability for streams and reservoirs in the region.
Officials from the Public Works and Traffic Departments worked to clear roads and ensure smooth connectivity. Citizens welcomed the snowfall, which not only enhances the scenic beauty of Kashmir but also benefits agriculture, horticulture, and winter tourism in the region.
