Amit Shah reviews J&K security, calls for faster action to achieve terror-free region

Kashmir, January 9,2026-Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi, reiterating the Government of India’s firm commitment to establishing lasting peace and completely eliminating terrorism from the Union Territory.

Addressing the meeting, Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Centre is following a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. He underlined that due to sustained, coordinated, and decisive efforts of the Modi government, the terror eco-system in Jammu and Kashmir has been significantly crippled.

The Home Minister appreciated the efforts of security agencies for strengthening the overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed that Counter Terror (CT) operations targeting terrorist infrastructure, terror networks, and terror financing must continue in a mission mode to ensure long-term peace and stability.

Shah directed all security agencies to remain highly alert and work in close synergy to sustain the gains achieved after the abrogation of Article 370. He emphasized the need to achieve the goal of a “terror-free J&K” at the earliest and assured that all necessary resources would be made available to security forces in this endeavour.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir, heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and other senior officers.

Officials reviewed the prevailing security situation, counter-terror operations, border management, and measures to further strengthen peace, law and order, and development in the region.
