From the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel (Chenani–Nashri Tunnel) to the Banihal–Qazigund Road Tunnel, these engineering marvels have revolutionised transportation by providing faster, safer, and all-weather connectivity through the challenging Himalayan terrain.
The tunnels have drastically reduced travel time, ensured uninterrupted movement during harsh weather conditions, and improved access between the Jammu and Kashmir regions. They have also strengthened the supply chain for essential goods, boosted tourism, facilitated trade, and enhanced emergency response capabilities.
The Chenani–Nashri Tunnel, India’s first bi-directional highway tunnel with an integrated escape tunnel, has significantly reduced the distance between Jammu and Srinagar while improving commuter safety. Similarly, the Banihal–Qazigund Tunnel has replaced the avalanche-prone Jawahar Tunnel route, offering year-round connectivity and reducing travel time for thousands of commuters every day.
