At the 7th Sqay South Asian Championship 2023 organised by Sqay Federation of Nepal at National Sports Stadium, Kathmandu, a Sqay Martial Arts player from Kulgam Mariya Sahar won a gold medal at the international competition. She started playing Sqay from class 5th and now she is in class 9th. In her five-year journey she has played a number of national games as well as districts and inter-district games. This was her first international competition. Many countries had participated and Maria contested against a Nepal player. This is a traditional martial arts game of Kashmir. Maria says it has reached the world games level and soon it will enter the Olympics. Her parents were happy that she won the gold medal in Nepal. And she is carrying forward the traditional sports of Kashmir. Maria’s message to all the sports aspirants is that come forward and believe in your talent and potential. Only if you believe in your inherent potential will the others take notice. Do not confine yourself within the four walls. Take the guidance of a coach. Also, one should seek the support of our parents and talk to them.
