Kashmir Ahead

Sub-Zero temperatures grip Kashmir, Zojila records -16°C

Srinagar December 17,2025:Kashmir is experiencing a sharp cold wave as sub-zero temperatures sweep across the valley. The Zojila Pass recorded a chilling -16°C, the lowest in the region over the past week, highlighting the severity of winter in the Union Territory.

Meteorological officials said other high-altitude areas are also witnessing freezing temperatures, while plains in Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam are reporting near-zero readings. Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions, especially the elderly and children, against cold-related health issues.

Authorities have intensified road safety and power supply measures, particularly along high-altitude passes like Zojila and Banihal, to ensure smooth connectivity and prevent accidents due to frost and icy conditions. Schools and healthcare facilities in vulnerable areas have been alerted to manage emergencies.

The cold snap is expected to continue over the next few days, with intermittent snowfall predicted in upper reaches, affecting travel and daily life. Officials urged commuters and travelers to remain cautious and follow weather advisories.
