Kashmir, December 12,2025: In a major relief to passengers affected by widespread IndiGo flight cancellations, Northern Railway has announced a special Vande Bharat Express service between Udhampur and New Delhi, operating from today until 14 December.
The special train, numbered 02439/02440, has been introduced to provide a reliable and comfortable alternative for hundreds of stranded travellers. Equipped with 20 fully air-conditioned coaches, the service aims to ease the sudden passenger rush on the Jammu–Delhi corridor.
Railway officials said the move comes in response to the urgent travel disruptions caused by the airline cancellations, ensuring that people have a fast, safe and dependable mode of transport without last-minute fare hikes or availability issues.
The special Vande Bharat is expected to significantly decongest Jammu and Udhampur stations and accommodate passengers heading towards the national capital for work, medical needs, examinations, and other essential travel.
Northern Railway has advised passengers to check seat availability and booking details through official channels, as the demand for the temporary service is expected to remain high through 14 December.
