Srinagar, December 2,2025: The Kashmir Valley continued to reel under intense cold conditions as temperatures dipped further overnight. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of –2.5°C, marking one of the coldest nights of the season so far. The harsh cold wave has led to partially frozen water bodies and increased frost formation on roads and rooftops across the city.
In south Kashmir, Shopian emerged as the coldest place in the Valley with temperatures plunging to –5°C. Residents reported frozen pipelines, icy winds, and increased heating demands as the cold wave tightened its grip.
According to local weather department officials, the current drop in temperatures is a result of clear night skies and dry weather conditions. The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast continued cold and dry weather over the next few days, with a possibility of warmer afternoons but sharp temperature falls during the night.
Tourists visiting the Valley have been drawn to the picturesque winter landscapes, though authorities have advised caution due to slippery roads during early morning and late evening hours.
The cold wave in Kashmir, particularly the sub-zero temperatures in Srinagar and Shopian, is expected to persist, intensifying the winter chill across the region.
