Chakhar, November 17,2025:The Jammu & Kashmir Rural Employment Generation Programme continues to empower local youth by promoting self-employment and livelihood generation across rural areas. One such success story is that of Malta Hussain, a resident of Chakhar village, who has successfully expanded his dairy farming unit under the scheme.
Hussain availed the JKREGP dairy scheme nearly four to five years ago, starting with just four cows. Today, his dairy farm has grown to 10–15 cows, significantly improving his income and establishing him as a successful rural entrepreneur.
He credits the growth of his unit to the support received through JKREGP, calling it a “highly beneficial and effective scheme” for rural youth looking to build sustainable livelihoods.
Another inspiring example comes from Udhampur district, where Altaf, an M.A. graduate, has set up his own dairy unit under JKREGP. He now maintains 15–20 animals, proving that educated youth are increasingly choosing entrepreneurship over waiting for government jobs.
These stories highlight the rising awareness among the region’s youth about the potential of government-sponsored schemes. With access to financial assistance and training, young entrepreneurs are not only becoming self-reliant but are also creating employment opportunities for others in their communities.
The success of JKREGP continues to demonstrate how targeted initiatives can transform rural economies by supporting dairy farming, micro-enterprises, and youth-led ventures across Jammu & Kashmir.
