Pulwama youth turns melon farming into a thriving enterprise under HADP

Pulwama, July 21,2026- Demonstrating how innovation and agriculture can go hand in hand, Mohsin Nazir, a BSc Mathematics graduate from Pulwama, has transformed his passion for farming into a flourishing melon cultivation enterprise under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP). His success story is emerging as an inspiration for educated youth to explore agriculture as a profitable and sustainable career.

After completing his graduation, Mohsin chose to pursue farming instead of seeking conventional employment. With technical guidance and support provided under HADP, he adopted modern agricultural practices, improved cultivation techniques, and focused on high-value melon production. His efforts have resulted in increased productivity, better-quality produce, and higher income.

Beyond achieving personal success, Mohsin has also created employment opportunities for local residents by engaging workers during the cultivation, harvesting, and marketing seasons. His enterprise has contributed to strengthening the local rural economy while promoting scientific farming practices in the region.

Mohsin believes that agriculture offers immense potential when combined with technology, innovation, and government support. He encourages educated young people to consider agribusiness as a viable entrepreneurial opportunity rather than relying solely on traditional job markets.

The Holistic Agriculture Development Programme continues to empower farmers across Jammu and Kashmir by promoting crop diversification, modern farming methods, value addition, and entrepreneurship. Success stories like Mohsin’s reflect the programme’s growing impact in transforming agriculture into a dynamic sector capable of generating livelihoods and boosting rural development.
