Srinagar, September 8, 2025: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, chaired a meeting to review the progress of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a national initiative aimed at making India tuberculosis-free, in Srinagar district. The review focused on enhancing testing, tracking, and treatment efforts to achieve the goal of a TB-free Jammu and Kashmir.During the meeting, DC Labroo emphasized the importance of timely screening and testing to ensure early detection of tuberculosis cases. He directed health officials to strengthen outreach through dedicated visits by ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers to identify and support affected individuals in communities. Labroo also highlighted the critical role of Nikshay Mitras, community volunteers who provide nutritional and social support to TB patients, in ensuring effective treatment adherence.
“The success of TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan depends on proactive screening, robust tracking, and comprehensive treatment support,” Labroo stated, urging health departments to collaborate closely with ASHA workers and Nikshay Mitras to close gaps in the program’s implementation. He reviewed the district’s progress in case detection, treatment enrollment, and follow-up care, stressing the need for inter-departmental coordination to meet national targets.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Chief Medical Officer, health department representatives, and district TB control officers, who briefed the DC on recent achievements and challenges. The administration has intensified efforts to provide diagnostic facilities, free medication, and nutritional support to patients, aligning with the broader goal of eliminating TB by 2025.This review follows the Chief Secretary’s recent assessment of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan across J&K, underscoring the region’s commitment to eradicating tuberculosis through community-driven and systematic interventions.
