Jammu, August 28, 2025 – In response to severe flash floods and cloudbursts that have disrupted road connectivity across the Jammu division, Indian Railways has scheduled an unreserved special train from Jammu to Delhi departing today at approximately 11:30 AM. The initiative aims to facilitate the safe evacuation of stranded tourists and passengers affected by heavy rainfall, landslides, and waterlogging that have halted vehicular movement on major highways.
The decision comes as torrential rains over the past few days have led to widespread infrastructure damage in Jammu and Kashmir, leaving numerous tourists and families unable to proceed with their journeys. Officials from the Northern Railway confirmed that priority boarding will be given to those impacted, including tourists from various parts of the country who were visiting the region. “The special train is a critical measure to ensure the well-being of stranded passengers amid these challenging weather conditions,” a railway spokesperson stated.

Railway authorities have emphasised that tickets will be available over the counter at boarding stations, and no advance booking is required. Context of the Disruption
The Jammu region has been battered by intense monsoon activity, resulting in flash floods along the Chakki River and damage to key infrastructure like bridges and highways. Notably, a bridge over the Sahar Khad river near the Jammu-Pathankot Highway in Kathua district was severely affected, exacerbating the travel crisis. As a result, 18 trains were cancelled earlier this week, and rail traffic faced temporary suspensions between Pathankot Cantt and Kandrori due to soil erosion.
Rescue operations are underway, with efforts focused on restoring road traffic, but weather conditions are showing gradual improvement. The special train service aligns with broader railway initiatives to run additional unreserved specials during peak rush periods, including for festivals and emergencies like this natural calamity.
Passenger Advisory
Stranded tourists from Jammu, Kathua, and surrounding areas are urged to head to the nearest boarding station promptly.Essential amenities such as food and water will be provided in coordination with IRCTC and local support teams.
Passengers are advised to check for real-time updates via the official Indian Railways app or website, as services may be subject to minor adjustments based on track conditions.
In case of emergencies, contact local authorities or railway helplines immediately.
This special train underscores the Indian Railways’ commitment to passenger safety and welfare during crises. As restoration work continues, travelers are encouraged to cooperate with guidelines for a smooth evacuation process.
