Srinagar, August 26: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives caused by a landslide triggered by incessant rain at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
The Lieutenant Governor extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. He directed officials to provide immediate relief, financial assistance, and the best possible medical care to the victims.
Shri Sinha also briefed Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah about the ongoing rescue and relief operations being carried out at the shrine and surrounding areas. Emergency responders, SDRF, NDRF, and district authorities have been mobilized on a war footing to ensure swift action.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Lieutenant Governor wrote:
“Deeply distressed to know that an unfortunate landslide triggered by incessant rain claimed lives of devotees at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. My condolences to the bereaved families and I pray that the injured recover quickly. Directed officials to provide immediate assistance. Continuously monitoring the situation arising in various parts of Jammu Division due to heavy rain. Emergency responders and district authorities have been mobilized on war footing in all districts. Urging everyone to stay safe, follow advisories and take all essential precautions.”
Authorities have urged devotees and residents across Jammu Division to remain alert, follow weather advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel amid the ongoing spell of heavy rainfall.
