Srinagar, August 18, 2025 — In response to forecasts of inclement weather, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, who also serves as Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), chaired a comprehensive review meeting on Monday at the DC Office Complex’s Meeting Hall to evaluate the preparedness and mitigation strategies of concerned departments.The meeting saw participation from key officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO DDMA Aadil Fareed, Director Meteorological Centre Mukhtar Ahmad, SP Headquarters Umar Shah, Joint Commissioner SMC Nuzhat Khurshid, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Chief Medical Officer, Superintending Engineers of R&B, Executive Engineers of PDD, R&B, I&FC, all Tehsildars, Block Development Officers, and other relevant departmental officers.DC Labroo emphasised the need for seamless coordination among line departments to ensure a robust disaster mitigation plan capable of addressing any emergency situation.
He directed officers to mobilize men and machinery, particularly at vulnerable spots, to prevent loss of life or property damage. “Our priority is to be proactive and prepared to act swiftly,” he stated, underscoring the importance of round-the-clock monitoring in areas prone to adverse weather conditions.The Chairman DDMA stressed timely dissemination of weather updates to keep communities informed and urged departments to maintain close liaison with local communities, field staff, and police to strengthen on-ground communication. He called for preemptive measures, instructing officials to keep ground staff on high alert to respond effectively to any exigency.The meeting also reviewed existing response strategies, with DC Labroo advocating for enhanced inter-departmental coordination to ensure prompt and effective action.
The Meteorological Centre’s inputs were highlighted as critical for timely decision-making, while departments were directed to maintain a state of readiness to tackle potential challenges posed by the forecasted weather.This proactive approach aligns with Srinagar’s ongoing efforts to bolster disaster preparedness, ensuring the safety and security of residents while minimizing risks associated with adverse weather conditions.
