JAMMU, August 14, 2025 – As India gears up for its 79th Independence Day, security measures have been significantly strengthened across the Jammu region, with the border grid placed on high alert to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration. A comprehensive multi-tier security grid, comprising the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police, is maintaining heightened vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) to counter any potential threats or cross-border infiltration attempts.Security arrangements have been ramped up across all 10 districts of the Jammu region, with a particular focus on militancy-prone areas such as Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, and Kathua. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) of the J-K Police have been deployed in Jammu city, with intensified checking and frisking at entry and exit points and along major roads.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Jammu-Pathankot Highway are under enhanced surveillance, with additional deployments of police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). CCTV coverage has also been expanded to monitor critical border roads and highways round-the-clock.The 225 km Line of Control (LoC) and 192 km International Border (IB) in the Jammu region are under stringent surveillance to thwart any nefarious designs from across the border. The Indian Army and BSF have intensified patrolling and employed advanced technology, including smart fencing systems, quadcopters, drones with night vision capabilities, and robotic surveillance devices for real-time monitoring of the rugged terrain.
Bulletproof vehicles and all-terrain transport have been mobilized to facilitate rapid troop deployment in challenging areas. In key frontier areas like Gurez, Uri, Karnah, Tangdhar, and Sunderbani, security forces are conducting live exercises to counter potential infiltration or ceasefire violations, demonstrating their operational readiness. A senior official stated, “Troops are fully alert and prepared to respond swiftly to any threats, ensuring border security and the safety of civilians.”The main Independence Day function in Jammu will be held at Maulana Azad Stadium, where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will unfurl the Tricolour and take the salute.
