Jammu, July 30, 2025:In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Tuesday distributed ₹1.53 crore to victims of a multi-crore job scam, marking one of the largest victim compensation efforts by the police in a white-collar crime case in the region.
The amount, which was recovered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police during an extensive investigation, was handed over to victims at a formal event in Jammu. The funds were seized from the accused involved in duping job seekers with fake promises of employment in government and private sectors.
“This compensation is a small step towards restoring trust and providing relief to those who were misled and financially exploited,” said DGP Nalin Prabhat, emphasizing the police’s commitment to cracking down on organized fraud and safeguarding citizens against such scams.
The multi-crore scam had affected hundreds of youth across the Union Territory, many of whom were lured into paying large sums ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh for non-existent jobs. The investigation uncovered a network of fraudulent recruiters, forged appointment letters, and illegally operated consultancies.
Police officials said that through diligent cyber tracking and financial surveillance, the department was able to freeze bank accounts and recover a significant portion of the scammed money.
The DGP further urged job aspirants to verify employment offers through official government portals and to remain cautious of unsolicited recruitment agents. A dedicated helpline and cyber fraud reporting unit have been established to prevent future cases and assist victims.
This incident underscores the growing threat of employment scams in the digital age and highlights the role of proactive policing and public awareness in combating financial fraud
