Kashmir , June 26, 2025 – India has firmly rejected the joint declaration of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit due to its failure to acknowledge the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which took place in the scenic valley of Pahalgam, claimed lives and disrupted peace in the region, prompting India to demand its inclusion in the SCO’s statement on counter-terrorism.
The SCO summit, attended by member states including China, Russia, and Pakistan, aimed to address regional security and cooperation. However, India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed strong disapproval over the omission, stating that the declaration’s silence on the Pahalgam incident undermines the SCO’s commitment to combating terrorism comprehensively.
“India stands resolute in its fight against terrorism. The exclusion of the Pahalgam attack from the SCO joint declaration is unacceptable, as it dilutes the collective resolve to address such threats,” said an official spokesperson.
The Pahalgam attack, which targeted civilians and security personnel, has heightened tensions in the region, with India emphasizing the need for unified action against terrorism. The decision to reject the declaration underscores India’s unwavering stance on ensuring that all acts of terror are unequivocally condemned on international platforms.
This move has sparked discussions among SCO members, with India urging for stronger, unambiguous language in future declarations to reflect the ground realities of terrorism affecting member states. The development also highlights India’s growing assertiveness in regional forums to prioritize its security concerns.
