Kupwara, May 21, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, convened a meeting to review preparations for the annual Kheer Bhawani Mela, scheduled for June 3, 2025, at the revered Kheer Bhawani Temple in Tikker, Kupwara. The meeting focused on ensuring comprehensive arrangements to facilitate a smooth and spiritually enriching experience for devotees attending the festival, a significant event for Kashmiri Hindus during Jyeshtha Ashtami.
DC Sudan held detailed discussions with officers on critical arrangements, including uninterrupted power and drinking water supply, healthcare facilities, security, sanitation, and essential commodities. She directed the Public Works Department (PWD), Public Health Engineering (PHE), and Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure seamless utilities at the temple premises. The Municipal Committee Kupwara was tasked with maintaining proper sanitation along the temple’s approach road and within its vicinity, including the installation of adequate dustbins.
To enhance devotee safety and convenience, Sudan emphasized robust security measures and efficient transport facilities. The Health Department was instructed to deploy medical teams and ensure the availability of essential medical supplies. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) was appointed as the Nodal Officer to oversee arrangements and coordinate with the Ashtapan Committee, with a directive to conduct an on-site inspection of the temple to verify preparations.
The meeting, attended by ADC Kupwara Gulzar Ahmad, Tehsildar Kupwara, and engineers from PDD, PHE, and R&B, underscored the district administration’s commitment to a well-coordinated event. The Kheer Bhawani Mela, second only to the Amarnath Yatra in pilgrim turnout, draws thousands to honor Goddess Kheer Bhawani, with heightened preparations this year following recent security concerns in the region.
