Srinagar, April 20, 2025 – Aadil Manzoor Peer, a 27-year-old from Halmatpora, Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, has emerged as a global icon in ice stock sport. His extraordinary journey from a small village to international fame peaked when he secured four gold medals at the Summer National Ice Stock Sport Championship 2021, held at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium in Srinagar from September 9-12, 2021. Dominating in Long Distance, Team Game, Team Target, and Team Distance, Aadil showcased unmatched skill and leadership.
Born on March 2, 1997, Aadil, known as Syed Aadi, initially dabbled in rugby and pencak silat before embracing ice stock sport in 2012. Guided by coach Irfan Aziz Botta, he mastered the art of sliding a stock toward a target on tarmac or ice. Despite limited facilities and skepticism, Aadil’s resolve led him to success. “Hard work makes any game easy,” he told ETV Bharat.
The 2021 championship, hosted by the Indian Ice Stock Sport Federation and Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, featured 300 athletes from 20 states. As captain of the Kupwara team, Aadil led his squad of eight to 19 medals: seven gold, 11 silver, and one bronze. His four golds highlighted his versatility. Col. Swaraj Bhattacharya, Commanding Officer of the Kupwara Terriers, praised the team’s role in promoting peace through sports.
Aadil’s achievements extend further. Captain of Jammu and Kashmir’s team since 2018 and later India’s national team, he competed in Austria in 2018, ranking 10th globally. In 2022, he guided India to 8th place in Team Distance at the 14th Icestock World Championship in Italy. His crowning moment came in March 2025, when he and teammates Ravikumar Meena, Pravindra Chaudhari, and Manjot Singh won India’s first-ever bronze in the Distance Competition at the Icestock World Championship in Austria. Aadil also cracked the top 10 individually, dedicating the milestone to aspiring athletes.
With 22 gold, five silver, and two bronze medals, Aadil has elevated ice stock sport in Jammu and Kashmir, boosting winter tourism and youth engagement.
