Ganderbal, January 2: The Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, conducted an inspection of the Rangil Water Treatment Plant in Ganderbal to assess its functioning and ensure efficient water supply to the region.
During his visit, the Minister inspected various units of the plant, including storage reservoirs, pump rooms, water testing laboratories, and the water distribution network. Officials informed him that the Rangil WTP provides potable drinking water to a significant population across Srinagar city, Ganderbal district, and parts of Baramulla district.
While inspecting the 20 million gallons per day and 10 MGD reservoirs, Javed Rana highlighted the valley’s natural abundance of water resources and stressed the importance of preserving these resources and protecting them from pollution. He urged officials to maintain cleanliness around the plant and to conduct regular inspections of water tanks to prevent contamination.
The Minister emphasised the need for high-quality water supply management, urging officials to perform regular water quality tests and ensure uninterrupted delivery of clean drinking water to all households. He also reviewed the ongoing work on the 5 MGD filtration plant, calling for its timely completion while adhering to quality standards. This expansion, he noted, will further enhance the plant’s capacity and strengthen the water supply infrastructure.
Expressing appreciation for the efforts of the Jal Shakti Department, Javed Rana reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing safe and reliable drinking water to every household under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He underscored the significance of the Rangil WTP in meeting the potable water needs of habitations across Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Baramulla.
Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Department, Kashmir, Braham Jyoti Sharma, provided an overview of the plant’s operations and outlined future plans for the department. He informed the Minister that work on the 5 MGD filtration plant is progressing steadily, with efforts underway to complete it within the stipulated timeframe.
This visit underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring efficient water management and the provision of clean, safe drinking water to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
