DDC Kupwara and MD JJM review progress of Jal Jeevan Mission in Kupwara district

Kupwara, December 17: The District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, and Mission Director of Jal Jeevan Mission J&K, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, jointly chaired a meeting at the DC Office to review the progress of works under the Jal Jeevan Mission in district Kupwara.

Addressing the gathering, the Mission Director emphasised the importance of responsibility and dedication in executing works under JJM. He urged the Jal Shakti Department officers to expedite the implementation of projects to ensure timely delivery of piped drinking water to the residents of the district.

The DDC stressed the need for concerted efforts to complete all ongoing works within the stipulated timelines. She also highlighted the proactive role of the District Administration in resolving bottlenecks and called on the officers to mobilise their resources to benefit the community under the ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission.

A detailed PowerPoint presentation was shared during the meeting, showcasing the status of ongoing JJM projects in the district. It was reported that out of the 226 allotted works for PHE Divisions Kupwara, Handwara, and SSD Tangdar, 72 works have been completed, with progress continuing on the remaining projects.

Key developments included the completion of 11 dug wells, 22 borewells, 3 OHTs, 49 pipe networks, and 7 SSFPs in the PHE Divisions of Kupwara/Handwara and SSD Tangdar. Additionally, 20 mechanical works and 27 electric substations have been successfully completed.

Under the FHTC scheme, 7,106 households have been connected to water supply in the ongoing financial year 2024-25, out of a targeted 34,393 households, with efforts continuing to meet the target.

The Mission Director warned that any official showing a lethargic approach towards the execution of works would face action. He instructed the Executive Engineer of PHE Division Handwara to closely monitor the performance of his team, including AEEs, AEs, and JEs, as frequent complaints regarding water supply issues had been received from the Handwara division.

Timelines for various works were established, with the Mission Director directing the concerned officers to ensure their completion within the given deadlines. He also reviewed other schemes sponsored under JKIDFC and NABARD, including lift/gravity, source, and filtration-based projects.

To address water shortages in underserved areas, the Mission Director instructed officers to ensure the availability of water tankers until piped networks are established. He further directed the Executive Engineers to certify all Har Ghar Jal reported villages in line with the guidelines of the National Jal Jeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.
