LG Manoj Sinha Inaugurates Endocrinology Conference at Jammu University

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha, inaugurated the ‘International Conference on Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Reproduction: Exploring New Frontiers’ at the University of Jammu today. This conference aims to highlight cutting-edge advancements in endocrinology and related fields, facilitated by the Department of Zoology and the Indian Society for Comparative Endocrinology.

In his address, he commended the collaborative efforts of scientists and academicians in enhancing societal well-being through their relentless pursuit of excellence. He emphasised that research and innovation should prioritize humanity’s benefit, stating, “Our research and creation of new knowledge should be dedicated for the benefit of humanity.”

Highlighting India’s advancements in healthcare, he noted the remarkable progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. He praised India’s role in global health efforts, specifically through the “Vaccine Maitri” initiative, which showcased the country’s commitment to global solidarity.

LG Shri Manoj Sinha remarked on India’s growing recognition for its superior research capabilities, underscoring the collaborative efforts between traditional medicine and modern scientific approaches to tackle lifestyle diseases, mental health challenges, and reproductive health issues. He called upon all researchers to unite in their endeavors to produce groundbreaking discoveries that can aid in the prevention and management of chronic diseases.

During the inaugural session, he also discussed socio-economic reforms implemented in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, crediting the Prime Minister for transforming the region’s destiny through initiatives focused on peace, job creation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth.

In a ceremonial moment, he unveiled a bust honouring Brigadier Rajinder Singh, a revered figure in Jammu and Kashmir’s history, and released the conference’s abstract book.

The conference has attracted around 150 participants, including faculty, researchers, and students from various universities and research institutions across India and six international delegates from countries such as Canada, Portugal, Japan, Belgium, the United States, and Germany. Notable attendees included Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University; Prof. Bechan Lal, President of the Indian Society for Comparative Endocrinology; and Prof. Suraj Unniappan from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada.

This four-day conference aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants, further advancing the fields of endocrinology, metabolism, and reproduction.
