Kashmir Marathon 2024: A Celebration of Sports, Culture, and Tourism

In preparation for the Kashmir Marathon on October 20, a press conference was held today, highlighting the significance of the event for the region. The Kashmir Tourism Department, in collaboration with several local organisations, emphasised how this marathon aims to promote not only fitness and sportsmanship but also Kashmir’s rich culture and tourism potential. During the conference, officials shared details about the marathon, which will feature 60 international runners and professional Indian athletes, competing for a total prize pool of Rs. 3 crore. The event will also include an engaging three-day expo for the registered runners, where Kashmiri handicrafts, local food, and cultural exhibits will be showcased. Shri Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister, is set to flag off the marathon at 6:15 am from Polo View, Srinagar. Speaking at the conference, he expressed pride in Kashmir hosting such an internationally recognised event, underscoring how it would encourage more people to visit the Valley, boost local tourism, and inspire the youth towards a healthier lifestyle. The organisers extended their gratitude to all the sponsors and stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on how the marathon represents a new chapter for Kashmir’s participation in global sporting events. They also reassured participants about the extensive arrangements made for safety and smooth coordination.
