After a decade-long wait, voting has resumed this morning across seven districts in Jammu and Kashmir, a pivotal moment in the region’s democratic journey. Today, voters in 24 assembly constituencies, representing a total of 30,27,580 individuals, will make their voices heard. The fate of 219 candidates rests in the hands of these voters, who are determined to participate in the democratic process despite the long hiatus. In Tral, voters have been lining up at the Tral polling station since as early as 6:30 am. The queues are a testament to the people’s enthusiasm. After years of waiting, they are eager to form an electoral government that reflects their aspirations and drives their progress. It is heartening to witness such widespread participation, particularly given the calm and secure atmosphere. Today, the people of Tral and other regions are exercising their rights without hesitation. The voters are confident. They express their gratitude for the smooth organisation of the elections and praise the efforts of the Election Commission. Many believe that the absence of external pressures has allowed them to vote freely, with their hearts and minds guiding their choices. They are seeking capable representatives—leaders who can address their concerns and work towards resolving their issues. This time, the people are more aware of their power and the importance of making thoughtful decisions. For many, today marks a turning point. The people of these constituencies, are stepping forward to make their voices count. The desire for change, progress, and representation has reignited the democratic spirit, and the votes cast today will shape the future course of their region.
