SRINAGAR, JUNE 21: Series of events were organized on Friday, 21st of June across all the districts of Kashmir to celebrate ‘International Day of Yoga’-2024 (IDY) with an aim to raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga and to promote Yoga across the world.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the day.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioners, other officers and officials besides youth, students and public were seen performing yoga during symbolic yoga sessions in all the districts of Kashmir.
In Baramulla, amidst inclement weather conditions, the International Yoga Day was celebrated with remarkable enthusiasm and energy across Baramulla district. The celebrations were led by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, from SKICC Srinagar.
The main event was held at Showkat Ali Sports Stadium Baramulla where hundreds of youth, students, and elderly participants gathered to take part in the event.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa; Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Raina and other officers joined the participating youth in celebrating the International Yoga Day.
During the event a mass yoga session was held, where instructors guided attendees through various asanas and breathing exercises. The session was synchronized with the national event, creating a unified experience for all participants.
The celebrations in Baramulla were part of a larger nationwide and global observance of International Yoga Day. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ resonated deeply with the local community, who turned out in large numbers to participate in the event.
A series of such yoga celebratory activities were witnessed across the district.
In Anantnag, the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated with enthusiasm with a grand event organized at Shaheed Himayun Muzzamil Government Degree College for Boys Anantnag, led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. SF. Hamid.
He was accompanied by the Senior Superintendent of Police G.V Sundeep Chakravarthy, students, people from different walks of life and officers from the district administration.
The participants engaged in yoga postures, breathing exercises and meditation. The event highlighted the theme of IDY 2024, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ emphasizing yoga’s role in promoting physical and mental well-being.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of yoga for overall health and encouraged everyone to make it a regular practice. The event successfully raised awareness about yoga’s benefits and served as a platform to promote its adoption for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
In Bandipora, thousands of people today participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations, organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the Department of Ayush at S.K. Stadium Bandipora.
The International Yoga Day celebration at S.K. Stadium Bandipora witnessed the participation of Deputy Commissioner, Shakeel ul Rehman; Senior Superintendent of Police, Lakshay Sharma, officers from civil administration, and police.
It also united thousands of people from all walks of life, including youth, sportspersons, officials of Ayush, officials of youth services and sports departments, and others to participate in the International Yoga Day aimed at promoting health and wellness.
The celebrations at S.K. Stadium also witnessed live streaming of International Yoga Day celebrations at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Center in Srinagar, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
International Yoga Day was also celebrated at Gurez Sub Division, where the event was organized by the Youth Services and Sports Department at Higher Secondary School Dawar.
The celebrations of International Yoga Day were also witnessed in various educational institutions of Bandipora District, including GDC Ajas, HKM College Bandipora, GDC Hajin, and GDC Gurez.
In Shopian, a grand Yoga function was held today at Mini-Secretariat, Shopian in which hundreds of participants participated in a fervent and enthusiastic manner.
Participants belonging to diverse strata of society, including school children, youth volunteers, community workers and employees took part in multiple yoga sessions (asanas) early morning despite intermittent rains.
The function was led by Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb at the district, which was integrated with UT level function virtually.
Among the attendees included SSP, Shopian, Tanushree and other district officers, Police officers and others.
The International Day of Yoga, 2024 ‘Yoga for Self and Society’ emphasizes the double benefits of Yoga practice, enhancing personnel wellbeing and improving society at large.
The day highlights the importance of Yoga, which builds strength, self awareness and harmony in mind and body, enhancing mental, physical and spiritual well being.
In Ganderbal, the District Administration Ganderbal today celebrated International Yoga Day 2024 across the district.
The main event was held at Government College of Physical Education (GCoPE), Gadoora Ganderbal which saw enthusiastic participation from various departments, including district officers, college students and staff, and students from various schools. The event witnessed a significant turnout.
Instructors educated participants about the benefits of yoga, emphasizing that yoga is an invaluable gift from the ancient Indian tradition. They highlighted yoga’s role in promoting physical development, mental relaxation, and the enhancement of strength, flexibility, and immunity.
Simultaneously, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Gulzar Ahmad, took part in a yoga event at Sonamarg, which also saw a large number of participants.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADC underscored the importance of yoga in daily life, stating that yoga is not merely an exercise but a means to discover a sense of oneness with ourselves, the world, and nature.
In Kulgam, International Yoga Day-2024 was celebrated across the district with the main function held at the lawns of the mini-secretariat, Kulgam.
A large number of locals, officers and officials of various departments, students of various schools/institutions participated in the Yoga sessions.
On the occasion participants performed different Yoga Asanas and were also briefed about the benefits of yoga which is a great practice for both the body and mind.
Yoga sessions were also held at district court, schools, colleges and other institutions in the district.
Meanwhile the District Administration facilitated live streaming of the Prime Minister’s event of Yoga held at Srinagar.
