Srinagar, October 30,2025: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday said that more than 2.81 lakh power consumers across the Union Territory have benefited under the Power Amnesty Scheme, thereby providing a much-needed financial respite to defaulting electricity consumers and enhancing power revenue collection.
The amnesty scheme in power was approved by the J&K administration to provide an opportunity to consumers to pay outstanding electricity bills in easy installments while waiving off penalties and interest charges. The initiative has helped the department recover significant revenue and reduce non-payment liabilities, ensuring better financial stability in the power sector.
According to a senior government spokesperson, “The overwhelming consumer response reflects the faith of the people in the reformist approach of the government. The Power Amnesty Scheme has become instrumental in ensuring timely bill payments with the reduction of arrears.”
The government has called upon the remaining consumers to avail of the scheme before its closure in order to avoid disconnection and other penalties.
