Bhaderwah, March 10,2026- In an effort to promote sustainable agriculture and empower women farmers, the Agriculture Department Jammu and Kashmir organised a training workshop on natural farming in Bhaderwah, benefiting around 150 women farmers from the region.
The workshop was conducted under the Jammu and Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP), a key initiative aimed at improving agricultural productivity and strengthening livelihoods of farmers across the Union Territory.
During the programme, participants were trained in various aspects of natural and organic farming techniques, including compost preparation, soil health management, and methods to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Experts also highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural practices in improving crop quality and protecting the environment.
As part of the initiative, organic vegetable seeds were distributed among the participating women farmers to encourage the development of kitchen gardens in their homes and communities. Officials said the move will help families grow fresh and chemical-free vegetables while promoting nutritional security.
Agriculture experts interacting with the farmers stressed that natural farming not only lowers input costs but also enhances soil fertility and long-term productivity. They also demonstrated practical techniques for preparing organic manure, vermicompost, and other eco-friendly inputs that can be easily adopted at the household and farm level.
Participants welcomed the initiative, stating that the training provided valuable knowledge on sustainable farming methods. Many women farmers expressed interest in adopting natural farming practices and expanding kitchen gardens to ensure a steady supply of healthy vegetables for their families.
Officials said such training programmes are part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods, empower women farmers, and promote environmentally friendly agriculture across Jammu and Kashmir.
The workshop concluded with experts encouraging farmers to adopt natural farming practices and share the knowledge within their communities, thereby contributing to the development of a more sustainable and resilient agricultural system in the region.
