₹1,000 crore Srinagar airport expansion to boost Kashmir connectivity

Kashmir, May 20,2026-The proposed ₹1,000 crore terminal expansion project at Srinagar Airport is being seen as a major step towards strengthening infrastructure, tourism and economic growth in Jammu & Kashmir. The ambitious expansion plan is expected to transform the airport into a modern aviation hub capable of handling the growing influx of tourists and business travelers visiting the Valley.

As Kashmir continues to emerge as one of India’s most sought-after tourist destinations, the need for improved air connectivity and world-class airport infrastructure has become increasingly important. The new terminal expansion project aims to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity, improve traveler experience and support the rising number of domestic and international visitors arriving in Kashmir every year.

The upgraded airport infrastructure is expected to provide a major boost to the tourism sector, which remains a key driver of Jammu & Kashmir’s economy. Improved facilities at Srinagar Airport will help ensure smoother travel operations, reduced congestion and better services for passengers, especially during peak tourist seasons and major events.

Apart from tourism, the project is also expected to strengthen business travel, trade and regional connectivity. Better air infrastructure can open new opportunities for investment, employment generation and economic development across the Union Territory.

The proposed expansion reflects the government’s continued focus on modernizing infrastructure and accelerating development in Jammu & Kashmir under the vision of “Naya Kashmir, Badalta Kashmir.” Over the past few years, several major infrastructure initiatives, including highways, tunnels, rail connectivity and smart urban projects, have been launched to improve connectivity and public services in the region.

Locals and stakeholders have welcomed the proposed terminal expansion, calling it a landmark development that will enhance Kashmir’s global accessibility and further position the Valley as a premier tourism and business destination.
