YSS hosts district-level sports events to promote youth talent across Kashmir division

Srinagar, May 15, 2025 – The Department of Youth Services and Sports , Jammu and Kashmir, has launched a series of district-level sports events across the Kashmir Division, fostering a vibrant sports culture among the region’s youth. Organised under the banner of the Fit India Movement, these events aim to engage students, local communities, and sports enthusiasts in competitive and recreational activities, providing a platform to showcase talent and promote physical fitness.

The initiative, flagged off in multiple districts including Srinagar, Bandipora, and Kupwara, features a variety of sports such as athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, and badminton. In Srinagar, Joint Director YSS Kashmir Mohammad Rashid Kohli inaugurated the events at the Youth Hostel Wazir Bagh, with competitions drawing enthusiastic participation from schools and colleges. Similar events in Bandipora and other districts saw District Youth Services and Sports Officers (DYSSOs) leading the charge, encouraging young athletes to compete for a chance to represent their districts at upcoming Union Territory-level championships.

Commissioner Secretary YSS, Sarmad Hafeez, emphasized the department’s commitment to nurturing talent and developing world-class sports infrastructure. “These events are a stepping stone for our youth to excel in sports and contribute to a healthier, stronger Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. The YSS also plans to integrate these efforts with upcoming projects, including National Centres of Excellence for Water Sports at Dal Lake and the establishment of high-performance training centers across districts.

Despite recent regional tensions, the events proceeded with strong community support, reflecting the resilience and passion of Kashmir’s youth. Sports lovers are encouraged to attend and cheer for participants, with competitions set to continue over the coming weeks.
