Srinagar, May 6, 2025 – As the world gears up for the International Day of Yoga (#IDY2025) on June 21, Jammu & Kashmir is already pulsating with the transformative energy of yoga. The Directorate of Ayush has launched a series of Yoga Mahotsavs across the region, turning schoolyards, community centers, and public spaces into vibrant hubs of wellness, unity, and mindfulness.
From the lively giggles of schoolchildren mastering the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) to the serene focus of adults practicing meditative asanas, these Mahotsavs are weaving yoga into the fabric of daily life. Organized by the Directorate of Ayush, Jammu & Kashmir, the events are designed to promote physical health, mental clarity, and community harmony, aligning with the global #IDY2025 theme, “Yoga for All.”
“Yoga is more than exercise; it’s a way of life,” said an Ayush official at a recent Mahotsav in Srinagar. “Through these events, we’re fostering a culture of wellness that resonates with people of all ages and backgrounds.” The enthusiasm is evident on platforms like X, where posts showcase hundreds of participants stretching, breathing, and meditating in unison, with captions like, “J&K’s Yoga Mahotsavs are lighting the path to #IDY2025!”
The Mahotsavs cater to diverse groups, with free sessions in rural villages and urban centers alike. Schools have emerged as key venues, where students learn yoga’s benefits—improved focus, flexibility, and stress relief—through fun, guided sessions. Community centers, meanwhile, host workshops on yoga’s therapeutic potential, led by certified instructors emphasizing mindfulness and holistic health.
Jammu & Kashmir’s breathtaking landscapes, from Kashmir’s tranquil valleys to Jammu’s rolling hills, enhance the yoga experience, blending physical practice with spiritual connection. The Directorate of Ayush aims to capitalize on this, promoting yoga tourism to attract visitors seeking wellness retreats in nature’s lap.
With #IDY2025 on the horizon, the Directorate plans to scale up these Mahotsavs, with grand events planned in Srinagar, Jammu, and beyond. The initiative reflects a broader vision to make yoga a cornerstone of health and harmony in the region, echoing India’s global leadership in the yoga movement.
As communities come together to stretch, breathe, and connect, Jammu & Kashmir is setting a powerful example of yoga’s unifying power.
