Jammu, September 04, 2025 – Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports (YSS), Yasha Mudgal, chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports at 09:48 PM IST today to evaluate departmental performance, strengthen youth engagement, and promote sports and extracurricular activities across Jammu & Kashmir.Mudgal directed the Director General (DG), YSS, to ensure year-round sports activities in all schools across the Union Territory. Emphasizing data-driven planning, she instructed the preparation of a detailed format to track student enrollment in sports across government and private schools for gap analysis and targeted interventions. To boost youth engagement, the DG was tasked with assessing the participation ratio of J&K youth in sports compared to the national average and adopting best practices from states with high girl child enrollment in sports to promote gender-inclusive growth.Reviewing the scholarship scheme, Mudgal called for a comprehensive proposal to enhance scholarships for players and medal winners to encourage young talent. She also directed the identification of encumbrance-free lands within schools for developing zonal mini-stadia to expand sports infrastructure. Additionally, she instructed the DG to organize talent hunts across J&K to identify and nurture grassroots athletes.
To integrate extracurricular activities, Mudgal proposed the establishment of a Youth Culture Centre to promote performing arts. On human resource matters, she stressed updating seniority lists, timely Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings, and expediting SRO-43, RAS, and RDA cases for swift resolution.To promote tourism through sports, Mudgal highlighted Bhaderwah as a potential winter sports destination, particularly for skiing. The DG presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the department’s functioning.The meeting was attended by the Director General YSS, Special Secretary YSS, Director Finance YSS, Joint Director YSS Jammu, Additional Secretary YSS, Deputy Director Central, Deputy Director Planning, and other departmental officers.
