Workshop on women empowerment held at Garhi, Udhampur

Udhampur,  April 10 , 2025 – The District Administration Udhampur, in partnership with We Care NGO, organised a workshop on women empowerment today at Garhi, aimed at uplifting women through skill development and economic independence. The event saw enthusiastic participation from members of Self Help Groups under the JKRLM UMEED scheme, a flagship program promoting rural livelihoods.

Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, the chief guest at the event, concluded the workshop by distributing sewing machines to selected beneficiaries. Encouraging the women to pursue income-generating activities, she highlighted their role in advancing the broader mission of women empowerment. “These initiatives are stepping stones toward self-reliance and economic growth for women in our community,” she remarked.

In her address, DC Rai emphasized the importance of such workshops as platforms for SHG members to engage with one another, share experiences, and provide feedback on financial support systems. She noted that this interaction would enable banks and relevant departments to refine and enhance their services to better support SHGs, fostering a stronger ecosystem for women-led enterprises.

The workshop focused primarily on cutting and tailoring skills, designed to equip participants with practical expertise for achieving self-sufficiency. Attendees received hands-on training in essential tailoring techniques, empowering them to either launch their own small-scale businesses or contribute to community-based ventures. The initiative aligns with the broader goal of promoting economic independence and resilience among rural women.

Organised under the aegis of the JKRLM UMEED scheme, the event reflects a concerted effort by the administration and its partners to bolster women’s participation in the workforce. The distribution of sewing machines further underscores the commitment to providing tangible resources that translate skills into sustainable livelihoods.

The collaboration between the District Administration and We Care NGO highlights the power of public-private partnerships in driving social change, with women empowerment at the forefront of Udhampur’s development agenda.
