Kashmir, April 29,2026- Authorities in Rajouri have launched a large-scale community initiative by setting up 1,670 women-led vigilance panels to strengthen grassroots efforts against drug abuse. The move, announced by officials in Jammu and Kashmir, is aimed at mobilizing local communities—especially women—to actively participate in identifying and reporting drug-related activities.
According to officials, each panel comprises local women volunteers who will work closely with law enforcement agencies, village heads, and social organizations. These panels are expected to play a critical role in spreading awareness about the dangers of drug addiction, monitoring suspicious activities, and encouraging early intervention in vulnerable communities.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over substance abuse in parts of the region. By involving women at the grassroots level, authorities hope to build a more vigilant and responsive social network capable of curbing the spread of narcotics. Officials emphasized that women often have deeper insight into community dynamics, making them key allies in tackling the issue.
Training sessions and awareness programs are also being conducted to equip panel members with the necessary knowledge and skills. These include identifying signs of drug abuse, understanding legal procedures, and coordinating with local police units.
Local residents have welcomed the move, calling it a progressive step toward community empowerment and social reform. Authorities believe that the initiative will not only strengthen anti-drug vigilance but also foster a sense of responsibility and collective action among citizens.
