Women empowerment in Sofipora, Shopian: tailoring skills bring new opportunities

Sofipora, 3 September 2025 :A quiet revolution is unfolding in Sofipora, Shopian, as local women are learning tailoring and cutting skills to earn a livelihood, uplift their families, and transform their lives. The initiative is helping women gain financial independence while contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.

Through training programs organised in the Shopian district, women are mastering sewing, embroidery, and garment-making techniques, enabling them to start small businesses or work from home. Many participants shared that these skills are not only providing income but also boosting their confidence and social status in the community.

Local authorities and NGOs supporting women empowerment in Kashmir have praised the initiative, highlighting it as a model for self-reliance and skill development among women in rural areas.
