Jammu, September 13, 2025 – In a bid to enhance safety and coordination for the anticipated surge of pilgrims, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has announced the reintroduction of wireless sets along the sacred track to the holy cave. The decision comes ahead of the shrine’s reopening on Sunday after a 19-day suspension triggered by a devastating landslide last month, which claimed 34 lives and injured 20 devotees.
Strengthening Networks for Navratri Pilgrimage
The move was finalized during a high-level joint meeting chaired by SMVDSB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sachin Kumar Vaishya, attended by representatives from the police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), civil administration, Army, fire and emergency services, and other key agencies. With the Shardiya Navratras festival approaching from September 22 to October 1, the board anticipates a significant influx of devotees at the shrine and base camp in Katra. “Navratras are inching closer, and the board is expecting a considerable number of visitors,” Vaishya emphasized, stressing the need for seamless synergy among stakeholders to ensure a smooth and secure yatra experience.The wireless communication system will bolster real-time coordination, enabling quicker responses to emergencies and better crowd management. Officials highlighted the pivotal role of the Integrated Command and Control Centre for ongoing monitoring and rapid interventions, drawing lessons from the August 26 landslide near Charan Paduka that halted the pilgrimage and underscored vulnerabilities in the rugged 12-km route from Katra to the Bhawan cave.

Beyond wireless sets, Vaishya directed the installation of additional signage along the route, implementation of regular public announcements, and deployment of joint patrol teams to regulate crowds and establish designated holding areas. These proactive steps aim to mitigate risks during the peak season, when lakhs of pilgrims flock to the Trikuta hills for darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi. The shrine’s management remains committed to leveraging technology and inter-agency collaboration for disaster resilience, ensuring the spiritual journey remains uninterrupted and safe.As the yatra resumes, devotees are urged to register online or at the Yatri Registration Counter in Katra and adhere to weather advisories. This reintroduction of wireless sets marks a vital upgrade in the shrine’s communication infrastructure, fostering confidence among pilgrims and reinforcing the board’s dedication to tradition blended with modern safeguards.
